Money

Money
by Samuel Kamara and Alie M'bayo, Nasir Students

Money! Oh Money! The one which changes one's
Condition in a twinkle of an eye;
The one in which man's destiny lies.
The one that makes things work easier and rapidly

But why on earth do people grow hatred among themselves?
Why on earth do people become pompous of themselves?
Why on earth do human beings kill each other because of you?
Why because of you the rich have less regard and concern for the poor?
Why on earth do human beings become slaves to you?
Why on earth are people seeking you from dawn till dusk?
Why are you so proud that you can't visit us?

Money! Oh Money! Why, because of you there is no
Peace in the world today?
Why on earth do people become hunters of themselves
Just like animals?
The world is shaking all over with crimes and disaster just
because of you.
But still you are our friend
Money! Oh money, the root of all evil

Africa is Never Poor

Africa is Never Poor
by Mr. Romeo

Look at you, your colours worth gold
You have a unified shape that attracts
Your culture pays you bride prices
With that your soil cannot bear infertility

Look at you, Africa, you never poor
After colonisation kicked you in the face
And slavery obstacled you from leaping
Freedom has now knocked at your door

Look around you, Africa, and smile
Remember, hope to get is a passport
To jump failure and success awaits
You are never poor Africa

Look at your Negros everything they invented
To talk about your dress, very rich
The beads clap and sing of your riches
Around the waist of your queens

Oh Africa, thou land of jewels
Thou soil of much fertility
Thou ladies of beauties
Thou colour of highest demand
Africa, you are never poor

Lady Africa

Lady Africa
by Mr. Almamy Kamara, Nasir Teacher

Lady Africa, Lady Africa
Why are you losing your beauty?
You paint yourself red, blue, and sometimes silver
Which makes you look like a masked devil
You bathe in poisonous chemicals,
In order to make yourself look white

What benefit do you derive in making yourself artificial white?
Is it that you only want to be ungrateful to your creator?
Turn round, and look at the Europeans, Asians, and Americans
Have you ever seen any painting themselves black?
But why do you change your pretty colour given to you by your creator?

You put on eight inch high-heeled shoes,
That makes you look like a skyscraper,
And walk like a leprosy patient
A step you miss, you are down like hot water poured
On a mountain of salt

Lady Africa, lady Africa!
Why not be natural?
And free yourself from your created problems

Africa Must Hear This

Africa Must Hear This
by Mr. Romeo, Nasir SSS Teacher from Ghana

Eei! Africa!
Pains in my throat, my voice ashake
Tears in my eyes, my body a-cold
Who could stand tall to wipe my tears
Sorrow has clothed my being and I know no happiness
Africa, resurrect from your endless sleep
And show me the way of equality

Where were you when colonisation and slavery visited your abode?
Where could you have been so long when neo-colonisation obstacled your childrens' progress?
Too long you had been away
And apartheid like the showers of heavens poured and drowned your children

Remember Africa, you have a role to play
Where are your wise and learned men?
These who could have stood in your absence
Were all slain faultlessly?
Where is Nkumah of the then Gold Coast?
Where is Saikou Toure of Guinea?
Where is Nyerere of Tanzania?
Where are the others?
Africa hear this and wake up from your perpetual sleep!

Arise Africa! The most courageous but sober continent of all continents
The years are folding on
We are being left behind
If the eye could shed blood
You Africa will see floods of tears of blood in your sons' eyes
